Flash Fiction Winners

We had a great response to this competition which was judged by Peter Urpeth of Hi-Arts.

The high standard of entries to both the adult and junior sections made Peter's job a tricky one but the winners, announced at various events over the course of the weekend were as follows:

Adult winner 'Bed and Breakfast' by Mr. J Davies
Adult 2nd prize 'A Midsummer Night's Opera' by J. Dove

Junior winner 'Adopted' by K. Bradley
Junior 2nd prize 'Winter Scare' by M. Ross

Thanks to all who entered for their literary efforts!

Exclusive UK Premiere at The Three Lochs Festival

Scotland's newest book and arts festival will be the venue for the UK premiere of the movie "Elvis and Anabelle" - and Hollywood writer and director Will Geiger (Free Willy: Escape from ...Pirate's Cove) will be on hand, via live weblink, to present his hit movie.

Described as a "unique and timeless love story", Elvis and Anabelle tells the tale of Annabelle who, groomed by her overly ambitious mother, is on the road to winning the Miss Texas Rose tiara when she dies during a pageant. Her death lands her on the embalming table of Elvis, an embittered young man whose sense of family duty and love for his ailing father keep him from following his dreams. When Ababelle is miraculously resurrected on Elvis' embalming table, the two unexpectedly connect and sparks fly.....

The film, hosted by Sunart Centre Film Club, will be screened at the Sunart Centre, Strontian, on Saturday 18th September at 7pm.

Saturday 18th: Will Geiger presents 'Elvis and Anabelle'

Elvis is an unlicensed mortician in his family's funeral home in rural Texas. His sense of fammily obligation and love for his eccentric, infirm father keep him from following his dreams.

Anabelle is a small-town beauty queen being groomed for the big time by her pushy, showbiz mother. All her decisions are made for her - she just has to make sure she fits the part.

Their two lives are worlds apart but those worlds collide when Anabelle, in a moment of triumph, collapses and dies on a beauty pageant catwalk...and ends up on Elvis' embalming table.

Reel-y exciting!

We're pleased to announce that the Sunart Centre Film Club will be curating a series of films and events as part of this year's festival.

On the Thursday evening, director Christopher Young will present a film followed by a discussion with buffet and bar. The choice of film is yet to be confirmed but you can be sure Chris will choose something to inspire and inform.

The Film Club have a real treat in store on Friday with a showing of Alexander Mackendrick's 1949 adaptation of Compton MacKenzie's "Whisky Galore" which we hope to present alongside a whisky tasting in conjunction with the Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight - more details to follow.

Saturday morning sees the showing of Nanny McPhee and The Big Bang starring Emma Thomson. With the first film in the series already hailed as a modern children's classic, this heart-warming tale is sure to delight kids big and little.

For those of a more outdoor bent, Simon Willis will present a sea-kayaking talk and film in the High School before Hollywood director Will Geiger (Free Willy: Escape From Pirates Cove) joins us for a live video link-up before the screening of his 2007 hit, Elvis and Annabelle.
